Abdulla Yousif Fakhro & Sons Group
Since it was established in 1888, the Fakhro Group has played a leading role in the development of the Bahraini economy and society.
Haji Yousif bin Abdulraman Fakhro (1867-1952) inherited from his father a small business dealing in traditional building materials and dates which he expanded significantly in the first half of the 20th century. The business grew into an active import-export business, supported by a fleet of 40 privately-owned traditional vessels (dhows). With branches in Bahrain, Iraq, the UAE, and India, the enterprise dealt with everything from cars to timber and from food to electrical and domestic products.
Under the leadership of Abdulla bin Yousif Fakhro (1918 – 2001), the Group grew into one of the leading conglomerates in the Kingdom of Bahrain with operations in automotive, industrial products, electronics, telecommunications, insurance, contracting, shipping and logistics. The diversification of the Group’s portfolio has aided in the evolution of several successful group companies, which have formed strategic alliances with globally renowned partners such as Budget Rent-A-Car, BYD Auto, Mobil, Dunlop, Omia, Sony Ericsson, Cisco, OKI, Avaya, McDonald’s, MK, Honeywell, GAC, Alico etc. The success of the business has continued under the leadership of two new generations and today, the Group`s diversified portfolio of business and investment interests spreads across Bahrain, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Qatar.
